Unfortunately, I’ll have to burn this top

Psssst!  This blog post has moved: sewpow.com

Ok, that’s a bit sensationalist, as far as titles go. What I will say is that this would-be wardrobe basic hasn’t worked out yet.

The pattern in question is Simplicity 2189.  View B.

Rotary (cutter) Club

Psssst!  This blog post has moved: sewpow.com

Dear sharp objects,

  • Lose a toe to frostbite.
  • Cut off my own ear.
  • Shave my head.
  • Fight a tiger with my bare hands.
  • File taxes every month.

This is a brief list of things I’d rather do than go back to cutting with shears.  (I didn’t include “slice off a finger” because that’s kinda possible.)  There are three of you:  45mm, 28mm and baby boy 18mm.  Between you, I get all the accuracy I need.

My little guys~~ 18mm sure gets in the nooks and crannies!

Rotary cutters and mats, I love you.  Brown rice that acts like pattern weights, you’re also awesome.

Kisses and stitches,

Ruthie

McCalls 6848 View D and my 2-month blogiversary

Psssst!  This blog post has moved: sewpow.com

So who else has picked up this super cute McCalls Misses sleepwear pattern?  The detail on the shorts is what got me.  So cute and feminine.  Also, I think the model looks like Charlize Theron and therefore, by extension, so do I.

Don’t mind my Bankers Box background.

Psssst!  This blog post has moved: sewpow.com

(Almost put three exclamations marks but didn’t want to look insane.)

Sewing Meetup of Philadelphia and Delaware County Philly

A picture’s worth a thousand stitches.

Believe your eyes.  Philly’s only dedicated sewing meetup has been born.  Fresh off the throat plate, this meetup brings together area seamstresses, dressmakers, upcyclers, patternmakers, designing dilettantes–pretty much anyone with a needle and thread.

Our first meetup is the second Monday in June.  How about that to start off your week?

Spread the word to your Philly friends.

Ruthie Reviews: McCalls 6742 Dress Slip (view B)

Psssst!  This blog post has moved: sewpow.com

This time I’m back with my McCalls slip.  I’ve never owned a slip.  I don’t possess any dresses that need one.  And yet I really wanted to have one.  And now that dream has come true.

Ruthie Reviews: Prof Pincushion’s Newborn Onesie!

Psssst!  This blog post has moved: sewpow.com

When Professor Pincushion posted her pattern for a newborn onesie, I had just started sewing and just received a baby shower invitation.  Fate.  All I needed was a yard of knit and some snaps.

I made one tiny alteration.  Instead of the recommended snaps, I just used dollar store sew-on fasteners.  They go on easy.  Maybe if you were making a ton of onesies, the tool method would make sense.
